Biogents® - Highly Effective Trap Against Host-Seeking Tiger Mosquitoes - BG-Mosquitaire Bundle

Why buy biogents on Luxebackyard.com
Hello,

If you have arrived on this product page, it is because you have decided it was time to take possession of your terrace or garden!

Mosquitoes are a disaster, it's not a secret:

  • They prevent you from taking full advantage of your outdoor spaces, forcing you to stay locked inside at certain times of the day!
  • Leave you horrible pimples, which itches you!
  • They can transmit diseases!
  • Even your animals are annoyed by these tiny creatures thirsty for fresh blood!

Fortunately, after having tested many solutions, we finally found our happiness! A truly effective mosquito trap was designed more than 18 years ago in Germany. (all the technical details below and the scientific evidence in the appropriate tab)

The BG-Mosquitaire comes as a bundle of two products, the trap, and the mosquito attractant (1 BG-Sweetscent included):

This high-catch-rate trap "BG-Mosquitaire" was specifically developed for use against Asian tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) and yellow fever mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti) which are both day-active, very aggressive biters, and potential vectors of diseases such as dengue fever, Zika, and chikungunya. The trap targets those mosquitoes that are actively searching for a host to bite. In many scientific studies, it has been shown that the trap catches significantly more tiger mosquitoes than other traps without carbon dioxide.

The trap has been designed to simulate a human being. It features a patented combination of attractive visual signals and a specially designed mix of artificial skin emanations ("BG Sweetscent" - effective for two months) that are released into the environment through an air plume that mimics convection currents created by a human body.

The BG-Mosquitaire attracts the mosquitoes and captures them with the help of a ventilator before they can reach the patio to bite you. If the trap is correctly positioned and runs continuously throughout the season, it will effectively decrease the mosquito population, and you can enjoy your patio again.

Features

  • A trap made of sturdy plastic for a sustainable, durable, long-lasting design and construction to be placed in your garden or backyard
  • Diameter 40 cm to be seen by mosquitoes
  • Does not require carbon dioxide, propane, butane, or other flammable gases
  • Does mainly catch mosquitoes and not other insects like butterflies, bees, or ladybugs
  • Requires little care and maintenance
  • Energy-saving uses approximately 14.7 kilowatt-hours of electricity if run continuously from 1 May to 30 September. At the average U.S. electricity cost of 12 cents per kilowatt-hour, the total cost to run the trap for the entire mosquito season is less than 2 dollars
  • Safe – UL-approved, watertight cable connections
  • High capture rates

To put it simply, we use an imitation of artificial human odor designed to last up to two months, which is available in the trap, so by following the recommendations of his placement, and by doing different location tests, you will get impressive catching rates!

First of all, you need to know if you have Tiger or Yellow fever Mosquitoes or other species.

This Trap is for Tiger & Yellow fever mosquitoes only, if you want to catch every species of mosquito, please buy the CO2 trap HERE

Don't let Mosquitoes Trap You inside!

A customer from Texas sent us the following video: (After a few days)

Another one in Iowa counted the mosquitoes trapped... and the trap got 1522 mosquitoes in 48 hours! True story thanks, Jud!

Jud trapped1522 mosquitoes in 48h with his BG-mosquitaire biogents

About the coverage area: The Standard trap (this one, without CO2) covers about 538 to 1 076 square feet, and the CO2 Trap HERE about 1 076 to 6 456 square feet.

Many different criteria influence the catching rate such as mosquito population, breeding waters, resting places, coppice, climate, surroundings, etc... you will find the case study here

At this time, you probably have already purchased your trap, if not, let me talk to you about the brand:

Biogents is an innovative company at the forefront of mosquito control research with an excellent reputation.

Their products have been proven in Europe for 18 years.

The trap provides

  • high capture rates – over 300 scientific publications report using Biogents traps to collect tiger and yellow fever mosquitoes is very effective
  • specificity traps mainly mosquitoes, not other insects such as butterflies, moths, and beetles
  • natural compounds – uses only compounds that are also found on human skin

If the traps are correctly positioned and run continuously throughout the season, they will effectively decrease the mosquito population, and you can enjoy your patio again.

How many mosquitoes did the trap catch?

Contents of the BG-Mosquitaire US version

When ordering the trap and the attractant (one sachet offered), you get everything you need to begin catching tiger mosquitoes:

Trap: 1 BG-Mosquitaire trap, 2 catch bags, 1 funnel net, 12 V outdoor power supply unit (1 m cable), extension cord (10 m)

Attractant: 1 x FREE BG-Sweetscent (effective for 2 months)

Placement of traps diminishes the local mosquito population when

  • correctly positioned
  • continuously operated (24 hours a day throughout the mosquito season)
  • operation begins early in the season

Examples of areas that can be protected by traps

  • backyards and gardens
  • outdoor cafés and restaurants
  • hotel outdoor areas
  • campgrounds
  • facilities for outdoor sports and recreation

The placement of the mosquito trap is an important factor in ensuring high catch rates.
Therefore, it is best to test different locations!

Positioning of Biogents mosquito trap against tiger mosquitoes, the BG-Mosquitaire

Positioning

  • traps should be used outdoors
  • traps should be placed in shady, wind-protected and humid places, near resting sites of mosquitoes
  • do not place the trap close to the terrace/patio and not in direct sunlight!

Effect

For efficient and sustainable mosquito control it is necessary to

  • continuously operate the trap (24 hours a day for the entire mosquito season)
  • begin operating the trap early in the mosquito season

To reduce the mosquito population, it is important to start trapping early in the season. The trap should run continuously throughout the season to achieve the best results.

To maximize the control effect, discard or empty all water-holding containers.

Generally, we recommend

Don’ts

Do not place the trap into the sun.Do not place the trao in windy areas.

Dos

Place the trap in areas with high humidity, e.g. near rain barrels and puddles.Place the trap near or into shrubs and bushes.Place the trap in shady areas. The trap should be put out when the daytime temperature has risen over 15°C (60°F)

No sunny location ; No windy areas ; Humidity ; Shrubs ; Shadow

Never place the mosquito trap in sunny areas.Never place the mosquito trap in windy areas.

Resting areas of mosquitoes can also be areas with higher humidity.Shady areas are a good place to position the mosquito traps.Shrubs and bushes are a good place to position the mosquito trap.

When

The trap should be put out when the average temperature has risen above 15° C (60° F). Above this temperature, adult mosquitoes fly actively. It is best to catch the mosquitoes now before they have a chance to reproduce and lay their eggs. It is important to make sure that the ventilator of the trap runs 24 hours a day.

Where

The goal is to catch the mosquitoes before they reach you. Therefore, it is important to choose a position near the resting areas of the mosquitoes. During the day, mosquitoes spend their rest periods in shady, wind-protected hedges or shrubs. If you place the trap here, you can catch the mosquitoes before they reach and bite you.

Many bushes form a hollow room on the inside. This is an ideal location for the trap if it provides enough space, both for the air currents and for the visibility of the trap.

Many bushes form inside a cave, that is ideal for the trap and also provides enough space - for the air currents as well as for the visibility of the visually attracting signals of the trap.

Do not place the trap directly on the terrace. If you place the trap in shady places or bushes near the terrace, you will catch the mosquitoes near their resting areas, before they reach the terrace and bite you.

Don't place the trap directly on the terrace. If you place the trap in shady places nearby, you can catch the mosquitoes before they get active again, reach the terrace and bite you.

Resting locations

Resting places of mosquitoes can also be locations with higher humidity such as wells, drains, basements, etc. They also like piles of wood where they can hide perfectly.

Breeding areas

Breeding areas like damp biotopes, rain barrels, puddles, or flower pods are good indicators for choosing a position.  However, always take care of choosing a position that is protected from the sun and wind!

Here are some further examples of bad (left) and good (right) positioning of the mosquito trap:

This example shows a bad and a good positioning for the mosquito traps: The bad positioning directly on the terrace in the sun, the good positiong in the shady shrubs.

Heavy rainfall

The trap will not be affected by rainfall, yet a sheltered position has positive effects on the catch rate. Naturally sheltered positions are, for example, under trees or shrubs, or any other covered area.

Even though heavy rainfall does not damage the trap, there are negative effects that might decrease the catch rate:

  • Mosquitoes avoid rain and prefer sheltered positions. Hence, in sheltered positions, the catch rate can be higher.
  • Heavy rainfall might disrupt the airflow by clogging the pores of the cover. This causes a reduction in the suction power of the ventilator, and also a reduction of the catch rate. Therefore, ensure that the trap is sheltered from heavy rainfall.

        What's the difference between BG-Mosquitaire and BG-Sentinel?

There is no difference concerning the catching rate, but only in the construction. They use the same patented technology and the same electrical components. The BG-Sentinel is our original trap that is designed for scientists and researchers to monitor mosquito populations. It is made out of a light and easily transportable material. The BG-Mosquitaire is designed for Home & Office backyard, patio & terrace.

        What's the difference between BG-Mosquitaire and BG-Mosquitaire CO2?

The BG-Mosquitaire (without CO2) only catch tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus, Aedes aegypti). The CO2 versions attract all kinds of species (e.g., Culex). The CO2 version provide a higher catching rate regarding tiger mosquitoes too.

          BIOGENTS is superior Mosquito trap

Longtime user of a Propane-based Mosquito trap which was very unreliable, but the it worked (rarely) it killed alot of mosquitos and midges (no-see-ums). The BIOGENT is equally effective AND works every time. Those who buy the BIOGENT will want to couple it with the CO2 dispenser which significantly improves the BIOGENT effectiveness. This will require the CO2 package and you purchasing a #20 pound CO2 tank at about $150-200 (which you keep and can refill for $30). One tank will last alot longer than the propane tanks I used to use with the previous unreliable trap. I am extremely happy with the BIOGENT trap with the CO2 dispenser.

          LOVE THIS MACHINE!

We were first introduced to this machine at a villa we rented in the Caribbean and it's crazy how well it worked! We had a short power outage while on the island which obviously turned off the machine. Within minutes, we were surrounded by mosquitos! Power came back on, machine turned on and the mosquitos magically disappeared. So I knew I had to have one for our home backyard. It wasn't easy to find (and nowhere to buy it in Canada) but I was able to pick it up over the border. It's been set up for a week now, and not ONE MOSQUITO!! Best product ever - thanks LuxeBackyard!

Thank you Sheryl! Happy to help anytime :-)
